🌼March Musings: Early Light, Quiet Momentum, and the First Signs of Spring
March always arrives with a quiet kind of hopefulness – the world slowly waking up, the light stretching a little further each evening, and those first hints of colour returning to the landscape. After the stillness of winter, this month feels like a gentle nudge forward, a reminder that new stories and new sessions are just around the corner.
Even though it’s still a calmer time of year for photography, March brings a subtle shift. It’s the point where planning starts to feel purposeful again – where ideas begin to take shape, enquiries start to pick up, and the year ahead becomes a little clearer. I’ve been using this time to stay organised, stay inspired, and make sure everything is ready for when the season fully opens up.
✨ Seasonal Sessions and On-Location Prep
Just like January and February, this quieter stretch has been the perfect opportunity to focus on the practical side of getting ready for the year ahead. I’ve been organising my kit, refreshing client guides, and making sure everything behind the scenes is running smoothly so that when sessions pick up again, the whole experience feels calm and effortless for you.
I’ve also continued refining the way I support families and pet owners before their shoots – from simple what-to-expect notes to gentle tips that help everyone feel relaxed on the day. These small preparations might not be glamorous, but they make such a difference once we’re out on location or in the comfort of your home capturing those natural, meaningful moments.
📸 A Call for New Faces
Thank you so much for the wonderful interest in the free mini sessions I’ve been offering to refresh my website and social media. I’ve already met some lovely families and pets through this.
I’m still looking for a few more dog and equine models as we move into spring. These sessions are gentle, fun, and completely unhurried – perfect for energetic pups, curious horses, or anyone who prefers a natural, authentic style of photography.
If you’d like to take part, just send me a message. I’d love to create something beautiful with you.
🌼 Looking Towards Spring
With the weather slowly warming and the colours beginning to return, I’ve been spending time thinking about the sessions I’d love to create over the next few months.
Spring always brings fresh sense of possibilities – soft light, gentle colour, and a feeling that everything is beginning again.
Whether it’s outdoor family sessions, relaxed in-home storytelling lifestyles, or playful pet portraits, this is a lovely moment to start chatting about spring dates if you enjoy getting organised early. Even though my calendar isn’t overflowing just yet, the shift into spring always brings a wave of new enquiries, so it’s a great time to reach out.
🪻 Lavender Mini Sessions
As we get closer to the warmer months, I’m excited to offer a small number of lavender mini sessions this year. Lavender season is short but beautifully atmospheric – soft light, gentle colour, and a calm setting that works wonderfully for families, children, dogs and horses.
To help grow my portfolio, I’m opening a limited number of introductory lavender minis at £60, with the standard price of £75 applying once those early spaces are filled.
These sessions are relaxed, natural, and unhurried – perfect if you’re hoping for something simple and seasonal.
If you’d like to register your interest or secure one of the introductory spots, just send me a message.
🌿 Freebies
If you’ve been following along on social media, you’ll have seen some of the freebies I’ve been sharing- and there are more on the way this month too. You can find everything gathered in one place on the main site, including guides designed to make planning your session feel simple, calm, and enjoyable.
These little resources are my way of helping you feel confident and prepared long before your session day arrives.
🤝 Community Partners
I’m continuing to build connections with local businesses and creative people who share the same values of kindness, connection, and community. From dog trainers and stables to children’s groups, small independent shops, and local businesses, these partnerships help me offer a richer experience to the families and pets I photograph.
If you think your community might enjoy being involved, I’d love to hear from you.
📷 A Few Moments From a Recent Freebie Session
I also wanted to share a little glimpse from one of the recent freebie sessions. This session was such a joy- relaxed, unhurried, and full of those small genuine moments that makes photography feel so special. One of my favourites last month was a gentle own home session for a family.
I’ve already shared a few images on my socials, but here are a few you may not have seen. I am so grateful to everyone who has taken part so far. These sessions have helped me refresh my portfolio in the most heartfelt way, and I can’t wait to share more as the season unfolds.
💬 Kind Words From Recent Sessions
One of my favourite parts of this job is hearing how families and pet owners feel after their sessions. Photography is such a personal experience, and knowing that the images I create become part of someone’s story means the world to me.
I wanted to share a few reviews from the lovely people who have trusted me with their moments:
"Ali was so amazing during our photoshoot! Very patient while my son needed feeding and when he was unsettled. She had some lovely ideas! And the photos are unbelievable! If you need any photos taken there's no one else you need but Ali Watson! Thank you so much x"
"We had such a fun, relaxed experience with Ali. My daughter has Autism and loves tumbling and has always wanted a photoshoot of her doing her skills. Ali had a great idea to add colour to the photoshoot which was so much fun. Ali ran her idea past my daughter, so she knew what to expect and she loved the idea. We did it at home where my daughter felt most comfortable, it was a warm day, and we were able to do the shoot outside due to the space and the colour. My daughter got a little overwhelmed at times as she struggles with being out in the heat, light and with bugs flying around her. Ali was so patient and followed her lead, if my daughter needed a break, Ali supported this and considering the setbacks out of our control. Ali made sure she had a wonderful time, and she did. We loved the photos; they are fantastic, and my daughter is so happy with them. We will definitely be using Ali again for future shoots and highly recommend. Thank you Ali, for your kindness and patience."
"Ali was all I had hoped for very professional but also very easy going. She was great with the horses and certainly got them to pose!!
Will definitely be asking her back once my boy has grown. Very happy 😊"
These words mean so much, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who takes the time to share their experiences. If you’ve had a session with me and would like to leave a review, you can send it to me by message or email and I’ll have it added to the review page on my website. You’re also very welcome to leave a review on my Facebook page or on Google – both are really helpful for giving others a feel for what a session with me is like.
On a professional note, I kindly ask that reviews don’t include the names of children or family members. Using “my daughter”, “my son”, or similar helps keep everything confidential. If a review is sent with names included, I simply adjust it before uploading so your privacy is always protected.

Times and dates may differ to the above, please get in touch to discuss possible availability.
That's all for now, see you next time.
